American Online Middle School
You can enrol in the American Online Middle School Programme at JDJ International Open School and start learning any month of the year, regardless of where you live. Students have access to learning materials 24/7. Thanks to asynchronous learning and formative assessment methods, JDJ students work at their own pace (within certain timeframes for completing their courses). They can progress faster and free up more time that can be spent on their passions and interests such as sports, arts, music, etc.
Students access learning materials such as textbooks, quizzes, videos, audio materials, computer games, assignments etc., via a school platform (LMS), which is accessible from a computer, tablet or smartphone provided that there is high-speed internet access.
Teacher-student communication happens one-on-one via online consultations by email, chat, telephone or video-calls to address any areas of concern. Students make new friends from the US and other countries by attending online student clubs and activities, i.e. the Book Club, Gaming and Computer Technology Club, Environmental Club, Debate Club, Career Club, etc. (for more, see our Programme Guide).
We work hard to make our students’ school transition as seamless as possible. It is made possible by translating and contrasting your national and American middle school curricula. Thanks to this, students can transfer a large part of their final grades, which, along with self-paced learning and flexible scheduling, enables them to speed up their graduation date by a year or even more! For instance, those who have completed a subject in their domestic curriculum may not be required to take a course corresponding to that same subject in the American school again.
By enrolling on the programme, our students follow the footsteps of 37,000 students and alumni following American high school and middle school programmes online in the USA and worldwide, in grades 6 to 12.
Educational Mentor
The role of JDJ Educational Mentor is to:
- motivate students to fulfill their potential,
- monitor student’s learning progress and report back to their parents/legal guardians,
- oversee child’s attendance,
- access the LMS in order to make sure deadlines for assignments are fulfilled in a timely manner,
- directly contact teachers on behalf on the parent so that if a student experiences any issues, they can be resolved promptly,
- help create a personalized learning schedule so that students can take full advantage of online learning. For instance, through elective course choices reflective of future educational or professional aspirations,
- aid in selecting the right university for your child.
Virtual Reality Courses
JDJ IOS presents the opportunity to study state-of-the-art virtual reality courses such as Biotechnology, Drones, Coding, Robotics, Cooking and many more.
We are excited to offer this revolutionary educational programme for teenagers and adults worldwide. Each VR course revolves around authentic experiences and has been specifically designed to provide learners with courses that lead to industry certification, and future college credit. Lessons are delivered by engaging videos and interactive simulations that use virtual reality. Realistic images, sounds and other sensations are generated in virtual environment. The simulations offer practice runs at techniques, designs, and ideas. The learner will engage in these courses on a computer, or with a virtual reality headset.
ID Card
JDJ students receive a Student ID card indicating the status of a student. We also recommend our students to apply for an international ISIC student card to be entitled to additional benefits such as cheaper public transport fares, various student discounts, etc.
Accreditation
The American Online Middle School Programme is accredited by Cognia (previously AdvancED). Students must complete all courses that meet academic standards expected from students in the US at each grade level, known as the Common Core Standards.
