English IV is a comprehensive course designed to elevate students’ understanding and appreciation of world literature. By examining a diverse range of literary works from different cultures and time periods, students will develop sophisticated analytical and communication skills.

 

Key Course Objectives:

  • Global Literary Exploration: Dive into a variety of literary genres, including novels, plays, short stories, poems, and essays, from around the world.
  • Cultural and Historical Context: Analyze literature within its cultural, social, and historical context to gain a deeper understanding of the world and its diverse perspectives.
  • Advanced Writing Skills: Refine writing abilities through the composition of well-structured essays, persuasive arguments, and personal reflections. Learn to conduct thorough research and utilize tools from rhetoric, argumentation, and literary analysis.
  • Enhanced Communication Skills: Develop active listening, critical review, persuasive speaking, and multimedia presentation skills.
  • Global Understanding: Celebrate diversity and foster empathy through discussions and contemplations of world literature.

  • Develop critical written and oral responses to world literature, using evidence from the texts to support interpretation and critique.
  • Engage in thoughtful discussions about world literature, reflecting on different perspectives and interpretations.

Semester 2 (0.5 credits)

  • Refine advanced composition skills for various types of academic essays, including argumentative, research, and analytical papers.
  • Focus on developing a clear argument, structuring an essay effectively, and providing strong evidence in written works.
